What are the white lines in my games on PS3?

Some of my PS3 games have white lines around details and such. like in resistance on the gun it has white lines on the details of the guns. On madden they are around the players helmets and body like their muscle. please help me get rid of it. I have all my settings right i believe. I have a 1080 hdtv but no hdmi cable. will an hmi cable help?

Without being in the room with you or knowing how your components are setup it’s hard to diagnose visual problems but the issues you are describing could be caused by several things.

Your TV’s Sharpness level is set too high. The sharpness 99.9% of the time should be set to 0 for any source of an image that’s not low quality SD cable or antenna.

Your PS3’s firmware or the games in question need patch upgrades. Often issues such as graphic errors are soft/firmware problems and get fix through updates via the internet or a storage medium like a flash drive.

Your HDTV can’t properly upscale non 1080p content. Upscaling is always an iffy proposition and while most HDTVs can do this without any issues others can’t properly upscale material without adding “artifacts” such as jagged lines and pixel “sparkles” In that case a HDMI cable will have to be purchased.
