why do you think the PS3 didn’t do well?
I think that part of it is the game and part of it is the blu-ray player.
Think about it. Sony is already loosing money for each PS3 sold and hope that they can make it back with game sales.(a lot of companies do this with their consoles). Unfortunately many people bought it just for the cheap blu-ray player. Plus the blu-ray disks let games become more complicated, which means that the PS3 needs more hardware and the price goes up.
The blu-ray killed it
Blu-ray didn’t kill the PS3. In fact, it’s what’s going to separate the PS3 from the 360. Just wait a few months when you start seeing the difference between using DVD-9 and Blu-ray. Wait till GTA IV comes out. Are people going to be happy having to switch disks in and out while they’re playing a game? Are 360 owners going to be pissed off that the PS3 version has more content than the 360 version. Those things will get answered soon. Unreal Tournament 3 will have more content on the PS3 than it will on the 360. Why? Because Blu-ray holds 25/50 gb while DVD-9 holds less than 9 gb. All those extra gb lets developers put more stuff on the PS3.
The war is 5 years long. This is only year 1, and by all standards, the PS3 is doing pretty well. It has sold over 5 million, and now with the 40 gb version, the PS3 sales have bumped up significantly. The 360 has sold about 11 million, which is twice as much as what the PS3 has sold, but it was released a year before the PS3. The PS3’s big guns still haven’t been released yet. Haze is coming out soon, and it could be a killer game. In 2008, there’s Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy XIII, FF vs. XIII, LittleBigPlanet, and Killzone 2. If those games don’t drive up the PS3’s sales, then it’s time for Sony to start worrying.
