Speakers for my 2008 Chevy Cobalt LT?

I was planning on getting some new speakers for my car but I don’t really know how all that stuff works. I know that I’ll have to get a new stereo to power the speakers but then what is an amp for? I was planning on getting two 6.5 inch speakers for the front and two 6×9 speakers for the back. For the stereo I was going to get a Sony – 50W x 4 In-Dash CD Deck (Model #MEXBT2700). It supports bluetooth audio streaming and I was wondering if I streamed music from my iphone would the sound quality still be good? Our family car is a 2008 Toyota Sequoia Platinum with a JBL Premium sound system, I was looking for something with sound quality around that area.

I would recommend going with either a Kicker setup or Infinity. I know a lot of people running a kicker setup with 6.5 in the front and 6×9 in the rear and have great luck with the quality. The SRT-4 Neon “premium” setup use to include the med level kicker speakers and they sounded great.

As for the deck i would look for something that has the aux jack in the front as you will get a more clean crisp sound out of that vs. Bluetooth. I have installed a couple decks with bluetooth on them and they work well for phone calls etc, but i would give them a 7 out of 10 on streaming music vs the aux jack….I know some 09 and most of the upcoming 2010 decks that are “ipod ready” should support the iphone in that case they will have an ipod wire coming off the back of the unit to directly plug in.

The new kenwood KDC-BT742U is a good unit as well.
