Why Exercise Is Essential For Weight Loss
Anybody who is looking to lose weight, needs to know that long term, healthy weight loss can not be accomplished without exercise. There are many people that are overweight that do not like to exercise, but they need to learn how to like and do it on a regular basis if they want to succeed in losing weight. Regular physical activity along with a proper diet is the only way that permanent, healthy weight loss can be yours. Here are some reasons why if you are looking to shed some weight, you need to exercise.
Weight loss makes it possible for a calorie deficit to happen. The only way that one can actually succeed at weight loss to have a calorie deficit. This means that you are burning more calories in a day than you are consuming. When you burn more calories than you consume, you lose weight as it takes 3500 calorie deficit to lose one pound. Exercise allows a person to eat a healthy balanced diet and still have a calorie deficit at the end of the day so that a healthy weight loss can occur.
Some exercises such as Tony Horton’s P90X involve strength training as well as cardiovascular exercise. These kinds of workouts will help build the muscle in your body. Even though muscle weighs slightly more than fat, muscle burns calories at a much faster rate than fat does. This means that if you have lean muscle on your body from exercising, you can burn calories just sitting on the couch watching television or sleeping in your bed at night. The only way to gain more muscle on your body is to regularly workout.
Exercise must be done on a regular basis for it to be effective for weight loss. If you do an exercise program such as P90X, then you need to keep up with the workouts, performing then anywhere from 5-6 days a week. Workouts must also be done at a level that raises your heart rate. If your heart rate does not raise above your normal base line than you are not burning calories efficiently. When you exercise you should be pushing yourself so that your heart rate is elevated and you should feel winded but should still be able to carry on a conversation. If you really want to burn fat and calories, push yourself harder so that you are sure that you are in a fat burning zone during the whole workout.
Any physical activity should be started slowly at first, especially if you are new to exercising, extremely overweight or you have other medical conditions. Always see your doctor before you start any exercise program so that they can thoroughly check you out and make sure you are healthy enough for the workouts. Then find a workout that you can enjoy and stick to. Some people may enjoy walking, aerobics or more high intensity workouts such as P90X.
Without exercise, permanent and healthy weight loss is just not sustainable. Stop the yo-yo dieting and adapt a healthy lifestyle of a balanced diet and regular weight loss.
