Nintendo Wii Compare Prices

Nintendo gamecube? Advice please?

I was thinking about buying kids a Nintendo Gamecube, as the price seems to be quite low compared to Wii. I don`t know much about games consoles and I was wondering if it is any good, and can I use wii or ds games in a gamecube or are they all different? Many Thanks in advance.
Edit: My kids are only 4 and 2 so dont want anything too technical for them.

The Nintendo Gamecube is a nice system and good to start out probably for your kids. However, do be aware that if you did purchase one they no longer make games for the system and the games will become harder to get. As for the games, Gamecube can only play Gamecube games and cannot play either DS or Wii games. However, the Nintendo Wii is backwards compatible and can play the Gamecube games. So if you did decide to upgrade to a Nintendo Wii later it can play those. Nintendo DS is a handheld unit, therefore, it can only be played on that unit.
