Can financing with an auto dealership be done all on the phone/fax/computer?
I am very close to making a move to buy a classic car that is 1200 miles away from me. I need to pay for half of the purchase price through financing or a bank loan after I pay for the other half in a down payment. My sister will be my co-signer and she will be the one applying for the loan.
I’m thinking I can save 200 in either gas money or airplane ticket if she doesn’t have to be there with me when I pick it up. Does she need to physically sign the contract in person or in todays age, can it be done through fax/phone/computer?
I plan on paying the loan off faster than its payoff period to save money. I just do not have the rest now as it is in the form of goods I still need to auction online.
The paperwork – finance contract and title especially – will need to be signed in person with original signatures, so fax/ email will not work. The seller/ bank can put the paperwork together and FedEx it to you (or your sister) with a return envelope. You would both sign everything and then FedEx it back to the seller/ bank. Of course, you would need to make sure this works for the bank, but there should not be a problem.
