Best Penny Auction Sites Online

If you search for discounted electronics online, the majority of sites popping up are penny auction sites. These bad boys are all over the web, however it can be difficult to tell if they are all they are cracked up to be.

I’m you’re average online shopper who searches for deals on websites like Best Buy, Ebay, Amazon, Newegg, Tiger Direct, etc. So when I first came across penny auction websites I casually ignored them until I finally decided to give in and see what they are all about. Basically, they all run on the same concept. First you sign up and buy bids, place your bids and hope to win an auction for an incredibly cheap price. Sounds easy enough right? Guess again. These sites might offer fantastic deals on all kinds of products but, it comes with a price… patience. You absolutely need patience if you are going to try a run with these sites. So if you’re not up for the challenge then you might want to stick with the sites I’ve listed above. However, if you are up to the challenge, then the legit penny auctions sites are definitely worth pursuing.

I started searching for the sites with the best reputations and only three seemed to be trustworthy enough to gamble a couple hundred dollars on.

Beezid
Beezid was the first site that I had went on and I have to admit it was impressive. The level of products on this site was magnificent. The reputation that followed made it more or less worth my while. The first thing I bought was one of the cheapest bid packages. Now, what to bid on? Well instead of throwing all my bids away on the high end electronics I decided to bid on a large bid package. I figured why not try and up the ante and give myself an edge before I bid on actual products. Well the first attempt was unsuccessful. So I tried again and again. Three unsuccessful attempts. At this point I’m out about $50 and getting frustrated. There were too many people bidding on the same thing I was. So I decided to give it one more try only this time I will spend a little more money on the next highest bid package. BINGO! I finally won the auction! But needless to say I wasn’t happy. It took me four try’s to win an auction featuring only a bid package. Even though I eventually won, it wasn’t worth putting more money into the site and actually bidding on a product. There are just too many people bidding against you. Good site, great reputation just too much traffic.

Cheap Electronics Depot
This penny auction site is one of the better sites out there. I’ve seen a great deal of positive reviews on it so I decided to give it a go. I had a much better experience on this site then Swoopo. I spent around $20 dollars on my first bid pack and ran through them pretty quick. So I decided to go a little higher and spend around $40 or so dollars. The price per bid turns out to be lower, the larger the package is you buy. This time around I didn’t plan on going for bid packs I decided to go for an actual electronic item this time around. I chose the Garmin GPS unit. I noticed that there were only four other people bidding on it against me at the time. Beezid had about a dozen going against me and that was just a bid pack. I figured I was going to lose so I decided to just dump all of my bids into the product. Well then I was hit with a shocker, I won on the first try. I did manage to use almost all my bids, I only really had 4 left, but I couldn’t believe it! I was excited at the prospect of what else I could win. So what next, well I had to pay the remainder of the item. It had only gone up to around two dollars. Factor in the $60 worth of bids and $5 shipping, and I got a $200 GPS unit for under 70 bucks.  Pretty solid deal.  Since the item only goes up one penny at a time and I came in around halfway through the auction I already had an advantage. I paid the delivery fee which was five bucks and I got the item within a week.

Final Verdict:  Smaller site, medium amount of traffic, great reputation and an overall great experience. I definitely recommend this one.

Wavee
For Wavee I decided to go for a large bid package right off the bat. I was a little hesitant on this one but I went for a laptop as opposed to smaller items. The item itself was priced around $900 at a regular retail store. So before I bid on the product I decided to wait and see how high the price had gone up too. It got up to $27.70 and there were only 2 other bidders bidding on it. The one guy had been bidding for the past 45 minutes or so. I figured he couldn’t have many bids left. At this point I went all in. I set up the automated bid thing they have to use all my available bids and then I just waited. After burning through a package I bought more.  Then more…then more, and few more. $600 worth of bids and a good deal of time later I had won. That’s why patience is the key to success on these sites. $600 was spend (plus shipping and another $100 or so on the final selling price, but this is still a good deal compared to the $900 in store price. I can confirm that this site is legit, as I did win and the item was shipped to my doorstep shortly after. The only thing that bothered me about this site was the prospect of had I stopped after spending $599 I would have been out $599 and had nothing to show for it.

Before bidding on penny auction sites I highly recommend doing your research and seeing which ones will save you money in the end.  101TopPennyAuctionSites.com is a great place to see collective reviews, statistics, and strategies for penny auction sites.  My personal rating on penny auction sites is as follows:

Is the website beezid.com legit or is it a total scam?

I would say no, it has a bad rating with WOT web of trust. But Norton safe web, found no threats on the site. That does not mean it’s not a rip off, just that you won’t get infected there.
